Spider Eye Pufferfish

The Spider Eye Pufferfish (Canthigaster amboinensis). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking spider-like eye patterns, vibrant coloration, small compact size, and distinctive markings.

Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and more pronounced markings, while females/juveniles are smaller and less vividly marked.

They reach about 3–4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide a sandbed, plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots, and open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is essential since puffers are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, small crustaceans, and high-quality pellets, supplemented occasionally with algae. With proper care, the Spider Eye Pufferfish becomes a vibrant, standout addition to a reef or marine aquarium.
