Speckled Damselfish

The Speckled Damselfish (Pomacentrus bankanensis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant juvenile coloration, intricate speckled patterns, and hardy, territorial nature.

Males are typically larger and more territorial, especially as they mature, while females and juveniles display slightly smaller size and less pronounced aggression. This species reaches about 3.5 inches (9 cm) in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (114 liters).

A well-structured habitat with live rock for hiding spots, open swimming areas, and a sandy substrate is essential, along with stable water parameters (salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4) and a secure lid to prevent jumping. The Speckled Damselfish is omnivorous and thrives on a varied diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and algae. With proper care, this charming and hardy fish makes a vibrant and engaging addition to any marine aquarium.
