Spaghetti Eel

Spaghetti Eel (Moringa microchir) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its long, slender body, smooth snake-like movement, and unique burrowing behavior. Males typically grow slightly larger and exhibit stronger territorial tendencies when competing for hiding spaces, while females and juveniles are generally more reclusive and spend more time buried in the sand with only their heads exposed. They reach about 24 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, plenty of hiding spots with live rock, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential since this species is prone to escaping.

Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and other protein-rich frozen offerings, occasionally supplemented with live foods to stimulate natural feeding behavior. With proper care and a carefully planned environment, this eel makes a fascinating and standout addition to the aquarium.
