Snowflake Bulb Anemone

The Snowflake Bulb Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) is a semi-aggressive invertebrate that is reef-safe with caution, making it a captivating addition to many marine aquariums. Admired for its striking coloration, snowflake-like white tips on bulbous tentacles, and ability to host clownfish, this species adds both beauty and functionality to a reef setup.

Males are typically smaller with slightly shorter tentacles and less vivid coloration, while females and juveniles are larger, with more vibrant colors and elongated tentacles. Adults reach 6–12 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

A proper environment includes a sandbed, live rock for attachment, some hiding spots, and open swimming space, with stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended, as anemones can move or “jump” in search of optimal lighting.

The Snowflake Bulb Anemone thrives on a diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and occasional high-quality pellets, and with proper care, it becomes a show-stopping centerpiece in any reef aquarium.
