Smith's Blenny

Smith's Blenny (Meiacanthus smithii) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its slender body shape, striking pale coloration with contrasting darker dorsal fin, and unique fang-like teeth that it uses for defense rather than aggression.

Males typically display slightly bolder coloration and may become more territorial when protecting a space or during breeding, while females/juveniles remain smaller, with subtler markings and less territorial behavior.

They reach about 4 inches (10 cm) as adults and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock with hiding spots, some open swimming space, and a secure lid since they are known jumpers. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4).

Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes. With proper care, this hardy and attractive species makes a standout addition to community and reef aquariums, offering both beauty and interesting behavior.
