Slippery Dick Wrasse

Slippery Dick Wrasse (Halichoeres bivittatus) is a vibrant, reef-safe fish with a semi-aggressive temperament that brings constant motion, color shifts, and real utility to larger reef systems. Juveniles show pale bodies with dark horizontal stripes and a spot near the pectoral fin, while mature males develop green, yellow, pink or blue accents, more intense patterns, and a striking presence among tankmates. It reaches about 9-10 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 100 gallons, with a deep fine sandbed for burying at night or if startled, plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging, stable water parameters, and a secure lid (they’re known to jump). Its diet should be rich and varied: meaty foods like mysis, brine shrimp, small crustaceans, supplemented with algae-based items and high-quality pellets.
