Slingjaw Wrasse

Slingjaw Wrasse (Epibulus insidiator) is a jaw-dropping showpiece fish, built to impress. Its “sling-jaw” is a natural spectacle it can shoot its jaw out like a tube to snatch prey in a blink a feature unmatched among wrasses. Males develop bold coloration: dark body with a white head, rainbow-tinged back, stripe through the eye, while females or juveniles may be banana-yellow, brown, or a mix depending on phase. It reaches about 19-21 inches in mature size. Best kept in large, mature aquariums (150+ gallons), with open swimming space, rock overhangs or caves, stable water parameters, and a secure lid since this fish is active and can jump. It’s a carnivore: small fish, crustaceans, shrimp, and frozen meaty fare are essential for vibrant health.
