Sleeper Blue Dot Goby, Les Village

The Sleeper Blue Dot Goby, Les Village (Valenciennea sexguttata) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its pale body adorned with iridescent blue spots and dashes, utility in sand-sifting, and overall graceful behavior. Males typically exhibit slightly larger size and may display more vibrant spotting during courtship, while females and juveniles are generally smaller with more subdued coloration.

They reach about 5 to 6 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons, ideally with a mature sandbed and ample live rock for burrowing and security. Provide fine sand substrate, hiding spots, and some open swimming space. They are natural diggers and may rearrange the substrate, helping to keep it clean.

A tight-fitting lid is essential, as this goby species is a known jumper.

Their diet should include mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, sinking pellets, and other fine meaty foods. Being sand-sifters, they also consume microfauna from the substrate. With proper care, the Sleeper Blue Dot Goby is not only a functional addition to reef aquariums but also a visually striking one.
