Sleeper Blue Dot Goby

Sleeper Blue Dot Goby (Valenciennea sexguttata) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its creamy white body covered in small iridescent blue spots, elongated shape, and impressive sand-sifting behavior that helps maintain substrate health. Males typically grow slightly larger and may exhibit more vibrant markings or subtle territorial displays, while females and juveniles are slightly smaller with more subdued coloration. They reach about 5–6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing and sifting, live rock with caves or crevices for hiding, and open space for foraging, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since this species is known for jumping. Diet should consist of a mix of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, enriched pellets, and live or frozen copepods. With proper care, this goby makes a standout addition to the aquarium, offering both functionality and beauty with its graceful movements and helpful sand-cleaning behavior.
