Slantbar

The Slantbar Goby (Amblyeleotris diagonalis) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its distinctive slanted bar pattern along its body, slender shape, and interesting symbiotic behavior often seen with pistol shrimps. Males typically are slightly larger and may display brighter coloration during breeding or territorial displays, while females and juveniles share similar patterns but are smaller and less vividly colored. They reach about 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a sandbed substrate with plenty of live rock and ample hiding spots, as this species is a burrower and requires stable substrate to dig and create burrows. Stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) are essential, and a secure lid is recommended to prevent jumping. Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, small crustaceans, and high-quality pellet or frozen foods. With proper care, this fish makes a fascinating and peaceful addition to reef and marine community tanks.
