Skunk Tilefish (Hoplolatilus marcosi) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its elongated body, striking skunk-like black stripe running from the snout to the tail, vibrant yellow fins, and graceful swimming behavior. Males typically display brighter coloration and may be territorial, especially during breeding, while females and juveniles tend to be smaller and have less intense coloration. They reach about 6-8 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, plenty of live rock for shelter, hiding spots, and open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since tilefish can be prone to jumping. Diet should consist of a varied diet including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, adding both unique beauty and interesting behavior.
