Sharp Nosed Weever Blenny

Sharp Nosed Weever Blenny (Parapercis hexophthalma) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its elongated body, sharp snout, striking spotted pattern, and distinctive black ocellus (eye spot) near the tail.

Males typically display bolder coloration and may become territorial, especially toward similar sand-dwelling fish, while females/juveniles are more subdued in coloration and generally less aggressive.

They reach about 10–12 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing and foraging, scattered live rock for shelter, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential since this species is prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty offerings such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, chopped seafood, copepods, and high-quality marine carnivore pellets. With proper care, the Sharp Nosed Weever Blenny makes a unique and active addition to the marine aquarium, though care should be taken when housing with delicate invertebrates or small fish due to its predatory tendencies.
