Seale's Cardinalfish

The Seale's Cardinalfish (Apogon sealei) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its delicate translucent body with subtle red and white markings, large expressive eyes, and its nocturnal, shy behavior.

Males typically develop slightly brighter coloration and may be seen guarding eggs during breeding, while females/juveniles are smaller, less colorful, and more reclusive.

They reach about 2 to 2.5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide live rock with plenty of hiding spots and caves, some open swimming space, and a sandbed to mimic their natural habitat, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since they are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely crushed pellets, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
