Sea Grass Wrasse (Novaculichthys macrolepidotus) is a reef-safe with caution fish known for its camouflaged elegance and pest-controlling prowess—a must for serious marine setups. Males flaunt deep green tones with dark ocular bars, tail-base spots, and subtle color shifts; females and juveniles are brighter green with lateral stripe patterns and mimic waspfish when small. They reach around 6 inches (~15 cm) and thrive in aquariums of 70-100 gallons, featuring a 2-4 inch deep fine sandbed (for burying while sleeping or when threatened), lots of live rock and rubble for hunting benthic inverts, stable tropical marine water (salinity ~1.020-1.025; temp ~72-78°F; pH ~8.1-8.4), and a tight-fitting lid since they are jumpers. Diet must be rich and carnivorous: squid, mussel, shrimp, krill, frozen mysis, plus live foods if available.
