The Invertebrate Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking red and white coloration, elegant banded pattern, and long, graceful antennae.
Males typically appear similar to females but are slightly smaller and less robust, while females/juveniles are slightly larger with more vivid coloration as they mature. They reach about 2–3 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons.
Provide a sandbed, live rock with crevices, and ample hiding spots, as well as open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many shrimp are prone to escaping.
Diet should consist of brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and prepared shrimp pellets, and with proper care, this species makes a colorful and fascinating addition to reef aquariums, often forming cleaning stations for fish.
