he Sailfin Shrimpgoby (Tomiyamichthys sp.) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its distinctive sail-like dorsal fin, slender body, striking patterns, and its fascinating symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp. Its unique fin display and cooperative burrowing behavior make it a captivating addition to marine aquariums.

Males typically grow slightly larger, display more vivid fin coloration, and may exhibit slightly more pronounced sail fins, while females and juveniles are smaller, paler, and maintain subtler fin patterns. They reach about 3–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, scattered live rock for shelter, and open areas for swimming. Stable water parameters are essential (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is recommended, as shrimpgobies are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care, the Sailfin Shrimpgoby forms a fascinating symbiotic pair with pistol shrimp and adds both visual appeal and dynamic behavior to reef aquariums.
