The Saddleback Clownfish, Black & Yellow (Amphiprion polymnus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its contrasting black-and-yellow coloration, distinctive white “saddle” marking across the back, and bold personality.

Males typically remain smaller and display more submissive behavior, while females are larger, more dominant, and often darker in coloration. They reach about 4–5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger tanks preferred when keeping pairs or multiple tankmates).

Provide a setup with live rock, a sandy substrate, and plenty of hiding spots, along with some open swimming space. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4, and a secure lid, since clownfish (especially Saddlebacks) can be prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods.

With proper care, this fish makes a standout and lively addition to a saltwater aquarium, especially when paired with suitable anemones or coral hosts.
