Saddle Coronata Pufferfish

The Saddle Coronata Pufferfish (Canthigaster coronata) is a semi-aggressive species that is considered reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration, unique saddle-like patterns, and compact size. Males typically display more vibrant coloration and distinct markings, while females and juveniles tend to have slightly duller tones. They reach about 3–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons to provide adequate space and reduce territorial stress. A well-structured environment with live rock, hiding spots, and open swimming space is recommended, along with a stable sandbed to mimic their natural habitat. This species thrives in stable water conditions with a salinity of 1.020–1.025, temperature range of 72–79°F, and pH between 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is necessary, as puffers can be prone to jumping. Their diet should consist of a varied mix of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and occasional algae-based offerings to ensure balanced nutrition. With proper care, the Saddle Coronata Pufferfish makes a vibrant and engaging addition to a marine aquarium.
