Sabortooth Blenny

Sabertooth Blenny (Plagiotremus azaleus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its slender eel-like body, bold horizontal stripes, sharp fang-like teeth, and fascinating mimicry behavior.

Males typically show slightly larger size, stronger coloration, and more territorial behavior, while females/juveniles are smaller, with subtler markings and less aggression. They reach about 5–6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons.

Provide ample live rock with caves and hiding spots, along with open swimming space. A secure lid is essential since this species is a notorious jumper. Maintain stable water parameters: salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and occasionally high-quality marine pellets. While not obligate algae grazers, they may nip at small fish or ornamental crustaceans if underfed.
