Ruby Flame Cardinalfish (Fowleria flammea) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking ruby-red coloration, bold flame-like patterns, and moderate size. Males typically exhibit brighter, more vivid coloration and slightly larger fins, while females and juveniles tend to have duller hues and smaller, more streamlined bodies. They reach about 4 inches (10 cm) in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide live rock formations and plenty of hiding spots, along with some open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since many cardinalfish species are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and quality pellets. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
