The Rockflower Beadlet (Anthostella stephensoni) is a peaceful invertebrate species that is not reef-safe, admired for its striking yellow column adorned with bright violet spots, radial scarlet lines from the mouth, and short, blunt tentacles tipped with mauve. Males and females/juveniles are not distinctly dimorphic, making them similar in appearance. Adults reach about 4–5 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons. Their habitat should include a sandbed or fine gravel, live rock for attachment, and small crevices or overhangs for hiding, while still allowing limited open space for movement. Stable water parameters are essential, with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4, and a secure lid is recommended since anemones can move or “jump” in search of better locations. Their diet consists of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, or finely chopped fish, and with proper care, the Rockflower Beadlet becomes a visually stunning and unique addition to a marine aquarium.
