Rock Flower Anemone

The Rock Flower Anemone (Epicystis crucifer) is a semi-aggressive invertebrate species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant coloration ranging from purples to greens, long flowing tentacles, moderate size, and unique swaying movement. Males are generally smaller, slightly less colorful, and more active with their tentacles, while females and juveniles are larger with brighter coloration and rounder oral discs. Adults typically reach 6–12 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. They thrive in setups that include a sandbed, live rock for attachment, hiding spots, and open swimming areas, with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and a secure lid, as these anemones can move or “jump” unexpectedly. Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood, with occasional pellets or algae supplements. With proper care, the Rock Flower Anemone becomes a striking and dynamic centerpiece in any reef aquarium.
