Rippled Rockskipper Blenny

Rippled Rockskipper Blenny (Istiblennius edentulus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its unique rockskipping behavior, elongated body shape, mottled coloration with bluish spots, and quirky personality.

Males typically display larger head growths (cirri above the eyes), bolder markings, and slightly more territorial behavior, while females/juveniles are smaller, with more subdued coloration and less pronounced cirri.

They reach about 5–6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, a sandy substrate, and some open swimming space. A secure lid is essential since this species is prone to jumping or even skipping out of the tank.

Stable water parameters are key: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4.

Diet should consist of algae (their primary natural food), supplemented with mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality herbivore pellets.

With proper care, this fish makes a hardy and entertaining addition to the aquarium, especially admired for its energetic and comical movements around the rocks.
