The Regal Damselfish (Neopomacentrus cyanomos) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking blue coloration with a subtle golden sheen, active schooling behavior, and hardy nature. Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and may show territorial behavior during breeding, while females and juveniles tend to have a more subdued appearance with less intense coloring.
They reach about 3 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock for hiding, some open swimming space, and secure rockwork for territory, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of a mix of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, quality marine pellets, and some algae-based foods, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
