Regal Angelfish, Misbar Orange

The Regal Angelfish, Misbar Orange (Pygoplites diacanthus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking orange misbar pattern, vibrant coloration, graceful form, and unique beauty that makes it a centerpiece fish.

 Males typically display bolder colors and slightly larger body size, while females and juveniles show more muted tones and less distinct patterning. They reach about 9–10 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons.

Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, along with open swimming space, a mature sandbed, and stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential, as angelfish are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of a varied mix including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine angelfish pellets, and marine algae or spirulina to support long-term health. With proper care, this misbar variant of the Regal Angelfish becomes a standout and prized addition to the home aquarium.
