Red-Head Wrasse (Halichoeres rubricephalus) is a jewel among wrasses, combining stunning color, peaceful temperament, and reef-safe appeal for those who go the extra mile. Males stand out with a bold red head, greenish body, and striking blue-edged fins; females and juveniles are silvery yellow with blue pinstripes and subtle spots, offering plenty of visual interest even before full maturity. It only gets to about 4 inches, making it more manageable than many large wrasses, but still needs space. Best kept in tanks of at least 75 gallons, with fine sand substrate for burying (when startled or at night), lots of live rock for hiding and grazing, stable tropical water parameters, and a tight lid because this species can jump. Diet should consist of meaty frozen foods (mysis, brine shrimp), small crustaceans, high-quality pellets, and frequent feedings to support its high activity and bright color.
