The Redhead Goby (Paragobiodon echinocephalus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant red-orange head contrasting with a yellow to greenish body, small size, and coral-perching behavior. Males typically exhibit slightly brighter coloration and may show subtle territorial behavior during spawning, while females and juveniles are a bit smaller and more subdued in color.
They grow to about 1.4 inches and should be kept in aquariums of at least 10 gallons. Provide plenty of branching live rock or SPS corals (especially Acropora), hiding spots, and gentle flow, as this species prefers to perch rather than swim actively. Ensure stable water parameters: Salinity: ~1.020–1.025 Temperature: ~72–79°F pH: ~8.1–8.4
Use a secure lid, as they may jump when startled.
Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely crushed pellets or flake foods. With proper care, the Redhead Goby makes a colorful and low-maintenance addition to nano and reef aquariums, especially in coral-dominated setups.
