The Red Striped Goby (Trimma cana) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its delicate slender body marked by vivid red stripes running lengthwise, small size, and active, darting behavior among rock crevices. Males typically display brighter and more intense red striping during breeding periods and may show subtle territorial displays, while females and juveniles tend to be slightly paler with less distinct striping. They reach about 1.2 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons. Provide a setup rich in live rock with plenty of hiding spots and crevices, along with some open swimming space. Stable water parameters are important: salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended, as these gobies can be prone to jumping. Their diet should consist of small foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely crushed pellets. With proper care, the Red Striped Goby makes a charming and lively addition to reef or nano tanks.
