Red Spotted Pygmy Goby

The Red Spotted Pygmy Goby (Trimma rubromaculatus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its tiny size, translucent body dotted with vibrant red spots, and delicate, hovering swimming behavior. Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and subtle territorial behaviors, while females and juveniles tend to be smaller with less intense markings. They grow to about 1 inch in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 5 to 10 gallons. Providing plenty of live rock with hiding spots and crevices along with some open swimming space creates an ideal environment. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended as they can be prone to jumping. Their diet should include small foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely crushed pellets. With attentive care, the Red Spotted Pygmy Goby is a charming and fascinating addition to nano reef tanks.
