Red Spotted Clown Goby

Red Spotted Clown Goby (Gobiodon erythrospilus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant yellow-green body marked with striking red-orange spots, small size, and its tendency to perch among coral branches, especially Acropora.

Males typically are slightly larger and may display more vivid coloration when courting or defending territory, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller and slightly duller in color until maturity.

They reach about 1.5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons, though larger tanks are preferred if kept in pairs or with corals.

Provide live rock and branching SPS corals (like Acropora) or artificial coral structures for perching and hiding, along with gentle water flow and open swimming space. While not strong jumpers, a secure lid is recommended, especially in smaller or sparsely decorated tanks.

Maintain stable water parameters: Salinity: ~1.020–1.025 Temperature: ~72–79°F pH: ~8.1–8.4

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and small sinking pellets. They may take time to adjust to prepared foods, so offering live or frozen options initially can help.

Note: This species may nip at SPS polyps or stress corals if not well-fed or if the coral is their primary habitat. It is considered reef-safe with caution for this reason.

With proper care, the Red Spotted Clown Goby makes a colorful and entertaining addition to nano and reef aquariums, especially admired for its close interaction with coral structures and bold personality despite its small size.
