Red-Spotted Blenny (Blenniella chrysospilos) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking red/orange spots along a pale body, elongated slender form, lively personality, and algae-grazing behavior.
Males typically grow slightly larger and may display more vivid coloration, often showing territorial behavior during spawning, while females/juveniles are generally smaller, less intensely colored, and more subdued in behavior.
They reach about 4–5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, along with open swimming space, a sandy or mixed substrate, and a secure lid since these fish are known to jump. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4.
Diet should consist of algae (film algae, hair algae, and macroalgae), spirulina, mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality herbivore pellets or flakes.
With proper care, the Red-Spotted Blenny makes a hardy, active, and visually striking addition to a reef or community aquarium.
