The Red Spot Yellow Sea Star (Echinaster glomeratus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking bright yellow body adorned with vivid red spots, symmetrical star shape, and relatively small size compared to other sea stars.
Males typically exhibit slightly more intense coloration during breeding periods, while females and juveniles display a more muted yellow tone with smaller or less distinct red spots. They reach about 4–6 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.
Their environment should provide a mix of sandbed, live rock, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and a secure lid, as many sea stars can move or climb unexpectedly.
Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and prepared invertebrate pellets, and with proper care, this sea star becomes a vibrant and fascinating addition to a reef or marine aquarium.
