Red Sea Eritean Butterflyfish

Red Sea Eritrean Butterflyfish (Chaetodon baronessa) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration featuring bold yellow, white, and black vertical bands, elegant elongated dorsal fins, and distinctive eye stripes. Males typically exhibit slightly brighter coloration and more pronounced fin extensions, while females and juveniles tend to be less vibrant with shorter fins. They reach about 6 to 7 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons.

Provide a combination of live rock for grazing and hiding spots, open swimming space for activity, and a sandy substrate. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around 1.020-1.025, temperature between 72-79°F, and pH from 8.1 to 8.4. A secure lid is recommended since many butterflyfish species are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of a mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes enriched with algae.
