Red Sea Bannerfish

Red Sea Bannerfish (Heniochus intermedius) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking black and white vertical stripes, elongated dorsal fin resembling a banner, graceful swimming style, and moderate size. Males typically are similar in appearance to females but may be slightly larger and more dominant in social behavior, while females and juveniles have the same coloration but can be smaller and less assertive. They reach about 8 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. Provide a tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding, ample open swimming space, and a sandy or fine substrate. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and use a secure lid as this species can be prone to jumping. Diet should consist of a varied diet including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, marine pellets, and some algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a beautiful and elegant addition to the marine aquarium.
