Red Sea Auriga Butterflyfish

Red Sea Auriga Butterflyfish (Chaetodon auriga cf) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its distinctive white body with irregular black spots, a bold black diagonal eye band, vibrant yellow fins, and a unique trailing filament on the dorsal fin. Males typically display brighter coloration and may be more territorial during breeding, while females and juveniles tend to be slightly smaller with softer markings and less intense colors. They reach about 8 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. Provide a well-structured environment with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding, some open swimming space, and a sandy substrate. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and ensure a secure lid since this species can be prone to jumping. Diet should consist of a varied diet including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, marine pellets, and some algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout and colorful addition to any marine aquarium.
