Red Saddled Anthias

Red Saddled Anthias (Pyronotanthias flavoguttatus) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking bright orange-red saddles across a pale body, intricate patterning, moderate size, and elegant swimming behavior. Males typically display more vivid coloration with bold red saddle markings and elongated fins, while females/juveniles have softer hues with less pronounced patterns and shorter fins. They reach about 4 to 5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons to provide ample swimming room.

Provide a tank setup with plenty of live rock for hiding spots and crevices, open swimming space, and a fine sandbed. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is essential as many anthias species are known jumpers. Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or flakes fed multiple times daily. With proper care, the Red Saddled Anthias makes a vibrant and lively centerpiece in reef aquariums.
