The Red Louti Grouper (Variola louti) is a semi-aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its striking coloration, vibrant blue spots, crescent-shaped tail, and impressive size. Males typically display more intense coloration with deeper hues and more pronounced patterns, while females and juveniles have lighter, more subdued colors with less defined markings. They can reach up to 36 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 300 gallons. Their habitat should include ample live rock with caves and crevices for hiding, as well as open swimming space, along with a stable sandbed and secure lid since these fish are prone to jumping. Water parameters should be kept stable, with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F (22–26°C), and pH of 8.1–8.4. The Red Louti Grouper is carnivorous and thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, small fish, and vitamin-enriched pellets. With proper care, this species makes a stunning and dynamic centerpiece in a marine aquarium.
