Red Long Tentacle Anemone

Red Long Tentacle Anemone (Macrodactyla doreensis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant red coloration, long flowing tentacles, and ability to host clownfish. Males typically display slightly larger oral discs and more pronounced tentacle movement during feeding, while females/juveniles are generally smaller with less vivid coloration. They reach about 12–15 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide a mix of sandbed, live rock for attachment, and open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and occasional finely chopped seafood, and with proper care, this anemone makes a standout and dynamic addition to the aquarium.
