Red-lip Cleaner Wrasse

Red-Lip Cleaner Wrasse (Labroides rubrolabiatus) is a very rare and high-value cleaner wrasse that brings both color and purpose to a mature reef setup. It has a striking look: yellow to red (sometimes golden) body that gradually darkens toward the tail, with a distinctive red snout (“lips”) that makes it instantly recognizable. Known for its peaceful temperament and reef-safe behavior, this fish acts as a living cleaner station—helping keep other fish healthy by feeding on parasites and dead tissue. Because of its specialized feeding needs, sensitivity, and rarity, this is truly an expert-level specimen that transforms a tank into something spectacular. Adult size reaches about 5 inches. Best kept in tanks of at least 75 gallons, with plenty of live rock to create hiding spots and overhangs, stable water quality (salinity ~1.020-1.025; temperature ~75-82°F; pH ~8.1-8.4), and a tight lid because cleaner wrasses are skilled jumpers. Diet must be rich in small meaty and parasitic fare: live or frozen zooplankton, enriched mysis or brine shrimp, copepods, etc., and adequate “client fish” in the tank so it can engage in natural cleaning behavior.
