Red Linckia Sea Star

The Invertebrate Red Linckia Sea Star (Linckia sp.), a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vivid red coloration, slender and elongated arms, relatively small size compared to other sea stars, and its unique regenerative abilities.

Males typically are visually similar to females, as sexual dimorphism is minimal in Linckia species, while females/juveniles share the same bright red coloration but may appear slightly smaller and more delicate in structure. They reach about 6–8 inches in arm span and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a setup with a fine sandbed, scattered live rock for grazing and shelter, and open swimming space for movement, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid, since many sea stars are prone to climbing or falling.

Diet should consist of microfauna such as copepods, small pieces of mysis or brine shrimp, and biofilm/algae on live rock. With proper care, this sea star makes a striking and fascinating addition to a reef or invertebrate-focused aquarium.
