Red Leopard Sailfin Blenny

Red Leopard Sailfin Blenny (Exallias brevis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking red and orange leopard-like patterning, sail-like dorsal fin, compact size, and unique grazing behavior.

Males typically develop more vivid coloration with slightly larger fins and may show territorial displays, while females/juveniles are less brightly colored, smaller, and more reserved in behavior.

They reach about 5–6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons. Provide ample live rock with hiding spots and grazing surfaces, a fine sandbed, and stable open areas for swimming. Ensure stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid, as this species is prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty items like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and enriched pellets, along with some algae for balance. With proper care, this fish makes a bold and standout addition to a marine aquarium, but care should be taken with corals, as it may nip at them.
