Red Fire Saddleback Clownfish

The Red Fire Saddleback Clownfish (Amphiprion ephippium). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its deep red-orange coloration, distinct black “saddle” marking behind the head, and bold personality.

Males typically remain smaller, more slender, and less dominant, while females and mature juveniles grow larger, more robust, and usually become the dominant member of the pair. They reach about 4–5 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide ample live rock for hiding spots, a sandbed, and open swimming space. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended since many clownfish are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a variety of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, quality pellets, and some algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout, hardy, and colorful addition to the aquarium.
