Red Cheek Wrasse

Red Cheek Wrasse (Thalassoma genivittatum) is a colorful and energetic wrasse known for its bold facial markings and lively presence in the aquarium. Males develop vivid green and blue bodies accented with bright red stripes along the cheeks and sides, while females and juveniles are more muted but still display distinctive striping. This species reaches about 6–7 inches in adult size and requires an aquarium of at least 100 gallons, with open swimming areas, rocky caves for shelter, a sandy bottom, and a secure lid to prevent jumping. Semi-aggressive and best suited for larger community or FOWLR systems, they should be housed with other robust fish and are not recommended for delicate reef tanks, as they may prey on small invertebrates. Their diet should be protein-heavy and varied, including mysis, brine shrimp, krill, chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods to maintain their energy and enhance their vibrant colors.
