Randall's Anthias

The Randall’s Anthias (Pseudanthias randalli) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking pink to reddish body with golden yellow accents, graceful swimming behavior, and elegant appearance. Males typically display more vivid coloration with deeper reds and purples, elongated dorsal and caudal fins, and pronounced markings, while females/juveniles are smaller, lighter in color (often orange to pinkish), and lack the elongated fin streamers. They reach about 4–5 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70–90 gallons, with larger tanks preferred when keeping a harem or multiple individuals.

Provide ample live rock with caves and crevices for hiding, along with open swimming space to mimic their natural reef slope environment. Stable water parameters are critical (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is necessary as anthias are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality micro pellets, offered multiple times daily to support their fast metabolism. With proper care, Randall’s Anthias is a colorful, active, and reef-compatible species that brings movement and vibrancy to marine aquariums.
