Red Bar Anthias

Red Bar Anthias (Pseudanthias cooperi) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant red and orange coloration accented by distinct vertical bars, graceful finnage, and moderate size. Males typically show brighter, more intense coloration with elongated dorsal fins and a prominent red bar along the body, while females/juveniles have a more subdued orange hue with less pronounced markings and shorter fins. They reach about 4 to 5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons to allow adequate swimming space and territory establishment.

Provide plenty of live rock for hiding spots, caves, and crevices, as well as open swimming areas. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended since anthias can be prone to jumping. Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or flakes, ideally offered multiple times a day. With proper care, the Red Bar Anthias makes a colorful and active addition to marine reef tanks.
