Rainbow Slender Wrasse

Rainbow Slender Wrasse (Suezichthys arquatus) is a slender, reef-associated wrasse known for its graceful shape and vivid coloration. In its adult (terminal) phase, it displays olive-green tones on top with a series of fine blue lines along the upper side, yellow beneath, red or burgundy dorsal and anal fins edged with blue, and a tail with upper yellow and lower red sections; juveniles and females are more reddish above with whitish or pale undersides, often bearing faint striping or spots along their sides and an ocellus on the tail base. It grows to about 6 inches (13.5 cm) full length, and is best kept in tanks of 50 gallons or more, with deep fine sand (for resting or burying), plenty of rockwork for hiding and grazing, stable reef parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025; temperature ~72-78°F; pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid (wrasses tend to jump). Diet should focus on a meaty mix: small crustaceans, mysis, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and frequent feedings to support its coloration and energy.
