Radiata Lionfish (Pterois radiata) is an aggressive predatory species that is not reef-safe as it will consume any fish, shrimp, or crab small enough to fit in its mouth. This distinctive predator displays bold reddish-brown and white radiating stripes across its body with dramatically elongated pectoral fins featuring characteristic white spots and bands, plus venomous dorsal spines that create an intimidating display. Distinguished by its unique "radiating" stripe pattern that extends outward from the body center and the prominent white spotting on its flowing fins, this species offers a striking alternative to the common volitan lionfish. It can reach about 9-10 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 75 gallons or more, with plenty of open swimming space and rocky hiding spots, moderate water flow, stable water parameters, and extreme caution around the venomous spines which can deliver painful stings requiring immediate medical attention. Its diet should include a mix of live or frozen meaty foods—whole fish, large shrimp, crabs, marine worms—as well as marine pellets once established, though many specimens initially prefer live prey and benefit from variety in their diet to maintain optimal health and coloration.
