Radial Filefish

The Radial Filefish (Acreichthys radiatus) is a peaceful species that is generally reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking silvery-white coloration with dark brown to greenish-brown radial striations and its unique ability to camouflage among soft corals like Xenia.

Males typically develop small bristles on each side of the tail base, while females and juveniles lack these features. They reach about 3 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons, providing live rock, a sandbed, hiding spots, and open swimming areas.

Stable water parameters are essential, with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–78°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended, as Filefish are prone to jumping.

 Their diet should include meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and copepods, supplemented with algae-based foods like nori or spirulina. With proper care, the Radial Filefish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, offering both captivating coloration and engaging behavior.
