Queensland Dottyback

My species/animal is a fish, the Queensland Dottyback (Ogilbyina queenslandiae). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration featuring a vibrant yellow body with subtle markings, sleek slender form, and moderately small size. This dottyback is known for being an active swimmer and a standout presence in marine tanks.

Males typically exhibit brighter coloration and may display more territorial behavior, guarding their chosen area aggressively, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller with less intense coloration and more reclusive behavior.

They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons to allow enough territory and swimming space.

Provide live rock structures with plenty of hiding spots and caves, as well as open swimming spaces. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is essential since dottybacks are known jumpers.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and a varied mix of high-quality pellets and frozen foods. With proper care, this fish makes a colorful and engaging addition to reef or fish-only marine aquariums.
