Purple Sebae Anemone

Purple Sebae Anemone (Heteractis crispa), which is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking purple-tipped tentacles, vibrant body coloration, large oral disc, and its ability to host clownfish. Males typically are indistinguishable from females externally, while females/juveniles may appear smaller with shorter tentacles until maturity. They reach about 12–18 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50–75 gallons.

Provide a sandy substrate, ample live rock for attachment, hiding spots, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many anemones are prone to drifting or jumping. Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood, supplemented occasionally with specialized anemone pellets. With proper care, this invertebrate makes a vibrant and interactive centerpiece for a reef aquarium, especially when hosting compatible clownfish.
